Grant Thornton Y Readers Campaign
The YMCA of Greater Charlotte and Grant Thornton are partnering to help prevent summer learning loss by ensuring students still have access to the Y Readers program. Opportunities for learning are needed now more than ever.
With an unprecedented summer ahead, it’s difficult to predict what missing months of school, combined with summer slide and slowdown, may mean for children in high-poverty environments who are already at greater risk of falling behind academically.
During a traditional summer break, low-income students lose an average of more than two months in reading achievement, while their middle-income peers tend to make gains. This summer, a consistent lack of educational opportunities, paired with the continued impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, has the potential to be academically devastating for low-income children.
The Grant Thornton team is committed to raising $50,000 to help fund Y Readers learning opportunities this summer.
The Y’s nationally recognized literacy program operates as a six-week camp serving students in grades K-3 who are reading below grade level. Each component of the Y Readers program is designed to help students build foundational reading skills and gain self-confidence.
Make a Gift Today! Together, we can prevent summer learning loss, help close the achievement gap and empower young readers to reach their full potential.
