Since relocating to the Charlotte area three years ago the Brace YMCA has become my home away from home. Leaving my career and friends behind in Atlanta, the Brace YMCA offered a place for my family and I to escape to while settling into our new life. We built our visits into our daily routine and were always welcomed by staff members who turned into friends. A lot has happened in those three years, but our place at the YMCA hasn’t changed one bit.
Two years ago I chose to raise money for the Y as a part of my swim around Key West. We raised $385 that year and that money went directly into programs that are near and dear to my heart, such as life saving swimming lessons and helping kids build healthy habits through youth sports. These programs are still important to me and now, more than ever, they need help due to funding cuts from COVID.
On October 9th, 2021 I will be participating in another distance swimming event, Swim The Suck. This race is 10 miles down the Tennessee River Gorge. I’ve been looking forward to this race for over 2 years and I’m so excited to be able to participate and have Cyle (my husband) be my safety kayaker again. So in honor of this swim and the countless hours I’m spending at the Y’s pool, I’m raising money to give back to my YMCA community. I’ve trained for countless events there, I’ve taught cycling classes and HITT Aqua Board there, and my boys have grown up there. Brace is our home away from home and I’m hopeful we can raise money for programs that benefit all members.
Please consider donating in support/honor of my swim. If you need further convincing, continue reading the message from the Y below.
In our community, the zip code you’re born into can determine your future.
That means two kids growing up at the same time – often just a few blocks from one another – wind up living worlds apart, even if their zip codes differ by just one number.
At the Y, we know that a number should never define – or limit – anyone. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential, no matter who you are or where you’re from.
That’s why I’ve joined the YMCA of Greater Charlotte’s cause as a volunteer fundraiser.
Every dollar I raise will go right back to our community, helping sustain programs that can make all the difference – from early learning to college prep, water safety to mentorship, the Y works tirelessly to bring critical services to our neighbors in need.
Give to my campaign today! Together, we can help the Y create opportunity for all.
